Our Trust endeavours to support people who are seeking a career in teaching. Gaining classroom experience before you start your initial teacher training (ITT) can really help you make sure that a career in teaching is right for you.
We may be able to help you gain experience in a Primary or Secondary school via the School Experience Programme. Find out more and to book a place on the School Experience website.
For some, school experience involves sampling a day or two in a school to see whether this is a viable career. Others who have already decided that a career in teaching is what they desire, now may wish to build a portfolio of evidence of time spent in schools liaising with teachers and students in advance of an application for teaching.
To qualify for School Experience with us you must:
- Intend to apply for initial teacher training this year.
- Have Maths and English GCSE at Grade C or above (or equivalent).
- Have, or are expected to have, a minimum of a 2:2 in a degree which is relevant to the subject you wish to teach, or sufficient A level qualifications to enable you to progress with your application with some Subject Knowledge Enhancement (SKE) support if appropriate.
- In order to spend more than 3 days in any of our Partnership schools or academies, you will require an enhanced DBS check. This is part of our Safeguarding Policy. If you are applying for more than 3 days you will need to process and fund the DBS clearance yourself.
If you can’t get into the classroom right now, observe teachers’ lessons and analysis of their lessons on the Oak National Academy website.
